Arijit Bhattacharyya, born in West Bengal (1994, India), is an artist currently living and working in Weimar (Germany). Through his artwork, he addresses issues of identity, power and history and how these manifest themselves in social contexts. He is deeply involved in conversations about postcolonial identity, decoloniality, social marginalisation and social disobedience. His practice questions the prevailing structures that determine the way we live, drawing resistance against different types of injustice and oppression. Starting painting and drawing at a young age, her work now extends to performances, installations, social engagement projects, lectures and design interventions. She has a unique approach to art that breaks its traditional boundaries and her practice is linked to everyday social practices.
