Since June 2024, Ameera Al-Hamayda has been living and creating work from a tent in al-Mawasi. Her sculpture Memory of Place invites viewers to see and consider the contents of the mind. An opening in the sculpted head reveals what is inside: the interiors of a home with rooms full of personal belongings; the stairs, furniture, and roof all in order. Ameera Al-Hamayda asks viewers to reflect on the persistence of memory and how through displacement, the material fragility of the world becomes clear. The sculpture expresses her larger concerns with how biology, memory, and personal hardships converge, and how the artistic form can hold the elements of life itself.

Ameera Al-Hamayda lost the original sculpture along with all of her belongings in an assault on the displacement camp by the occupation forces in July 2025. In a personal message she writes:

‘That’s why seeing this piece recreated again in such a beautiful and moving way brings me great joy. It feels like a part of that lost work is still alive—despite everything that was taken.’
