Ahmad Al-Adawi is a visual artist and illustrator who studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Al-Aqsa University. The popular struggle of the First Intifada and the revolutionary murals and posters that decorated the walls of the refugee camp where he grew up influenced him to choose art as a means of expression and resistance. He began his practice exploring storytelling through illustrations for children and youth, and co-founded an animation studio that was destroyed during the current war. Over time his work has evolved, balancing styles associated with expressionism, symbolism, and modern art. For Ahmad Al-Adawi, art is inseparable from the Palestinian struggle; it must reflect reality while preserving human dignity. He explains, “I cannot draw smiling characters while people around me are losing their homes and loved ones.” He chooses instead “to depict reality as it is, without beautification or distortion.
