Alaà al Shawa is a student of fine arts. Through painting, textile art, and knitting, and often through combinations of diverse materials like fabric and leather, her work highlights pressing social issues that remain all too frequently unaddressed. In varied projects, Alaà al Shawa reflects the struggles and aspirations of life in Gaza: Waiting for a Response from the Sea explores the transition from familiar to the unknown experienced through illegal migration.
